Recent ISU student is missing

The Iowa State Department of Public Safety is seeking information from the university community about a former student who was reported missing since mid-August.

Samir M. Patel, 22, of Detroit, Mich., reportedly checked out of his room in Friley Hall on Aug. 12 and family members and university officials have not heard from him since. He was working as a painter on a university crew this past summer and was enrolled as a junior in computer science last spring.

“There is no suspicion of foul play or criminal activity. We just want to help the family locate him,” DPS Director Loras Jaeger said.

Anyone who has had recent contact with Patel or has information about his whereabouts should contact DPS.

“We want people to contact DPS so we can contact Patel and let it up to him to contact his family. We’re just going to be the facilitator,” Jaeger said.
