For those who are artistically inclined or are environmentalists at heart, there may be someone out there just waiting for you to take a step forward. Who? The man’s name is Buster Simpson, a man of artistic talents and of an ecologically sound mind.

Tonight he will be reaching out to Iowa State students. Simpson will be giving a lecture titled “From Woodstock To Wein: Art Projects in the Public Realm” at the Brunnier Art Museum at 7:00 p.m. The lecture, hosted by Myra Engler, professor of landscape architecture, will address issues of history, ecology, technology and sociology.

Since the 1970s this Seattle artist has been reaching out to people about the needs of Mother Earth. He has provoked many citizens into progressive actions and ecological sanity.

Simpson says his approach to social and environmental concerns “stems from a belief that we should act in concert with the planet rather than assume we are the beneficiaries of all its riches. We are only of its components, unique in our intelligence.”

Simpson is among many ecological artists who use theirart work in their fight to educate people to be ecologically sound. He has been well known for his public sculptures as well as his lectures and efforts.

The lecture is sponsored by the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, the Art and Design Department, theDepartment of Landscape Architecture, the College of Design and the University Museums.

Brunnier Art Museum is located on the second floor of the Scheman Building and admission is free. For more information call 294-3342.
