What do you get when you put a one-man show on display and throw some clay on top? An open studio and art display by ceramic artist George Lowe.

Over the past 20 years Lowe has been throwing pottery, teaching collegiate ceramics and working as a guest potter around the country.

Last fall Lowe and his family made the big move back to Marion so that Lowe could become a full-time studio artist. And now, Lowe Pottery will be hosting a grand opening today, at 5 p.m.

The studio, located at 5006 North Tenth Street in Marion (one mile north of Linn-Mar High School) will be open to the public. A diverse collection of works will be on display.

“Basically it will consist of an open house, open studio and gallery, and refreshments will be provided,” Lowe said.

The works of the former professor of ceramics at the University of Florida and Valencia Community College have been featured in American Wood Fire, Ceramics Monthly, Woodfiring In America, and in the NCECA Journal.

Lowe is well known in the ceramic field and often gives lectures around the country. In addition, his studio works have been selected and featured at various area shows. Some selections are currently on display at Campbell Steele Gallery in Marion.

Don’t miss out on the one-man show that will feature handmade works by Lowe. Ribbon cutting will be at 5:30 p.m.
