The newly formed Ames Children’s Choir will be holding auditions this week in Room 3 of the Iowa State University Music Hall. The auditions will be on Sept. 7,8 and 9.

“No previous experience or vocal training is required, just a desire

to participate in a choral ensemble of excellence,” said Sylvia Munson, director of the choir.

Participants in the audition should be prepared to sing a song of their choice.

Times for the auditions are 4-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9-12 and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday. The Children’s Choir is open to boys and girls a10-14 years old.

Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on September 14 and running through May. They will be held between 4 and

5 p.m.

A $25 monthly tuition fee will be charged to cover the cost of instruction, music and concert attire.

Munson, an ISU Assistant Professor of Music Education, has a lot of experience working with children’s choirs. She was the founder and music director of the Arizona Children’s Choir in Tucson, Arizona from 1988-1995.

“I am pleasantly amazed at the remarkable work that children do,” Munson said. “I would like children in this area to have the opportunity

to excel in choir ensemble and to

be part of something special where they can participate with the ISU Department of Music.”

The Ames Children’s Choir is a newly formed ensemble that is the brainchild of Munson.

“I am doing this because I love children and singing,” Munson said. “I would like to give the community of Ames one more opportunity

to see the good work of children.”

The children’s choir will work closely in association with the ISU Department of Music.

They will perform with ISU choirs at the ISU Holiday Festival Concert 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 and by themselves at the Ames Children’s Choir Holiday Concert 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10.

Participants will be given a video presentation of Munson’s prior work in children’s choirs in Arizona at the audition.

Interested participants should call Dr. Munson at 294-8017.
