Davis second nationally in two categories

Iowa State’s Troy Davis is second nationally in rushing and all-purpose yardage after putting up big numbers in the Cyclones’ first two games.

Davis has carried 71 times for 471 yards, an average of 235.5 yards a game. Navy’s Chris McCoy, who has played only one game, is the leader after rushing for 273 yards against SMU.

A 5-foot-8, 185-pound sophomore, Davis also is averaging 290.5 all-purpose yards — a player’s yardage from rushing, receiving and returning kicks. Texas A&M’s Leeland McElroy is the leader in that category with an average of 359 yards a game.

With his 471 yards, Davis already has more than any Iowa State player gained all last season. Quarterback Todd Doxzon led the team with 375 yards.

Davis ran for a school-record 291 yards in Iowa State’s season opener against Ohio University and added 180 yards against TCU on Saturday night.
