Christ was not “anti-family”

To the Editor:

This is in response to the August 30th write-in, “Christ ‘anti-family.'”

I have been watching the Daily for the past week since this issue hoping someone would respond, but no one has.

I am taking it upon myself to speak out for truth … Christ is NOT anti-family. In fact, He is anything but.

When reading the Bible, people must remember not to take isolated verses of The Word and twist it to their own point of view. The Bible must read in the context in which it was written.

Before I support the importance of the family in the eyes of God, another point must be made when discussing this topic. God’s mission for His children is to serve Him with their whole heart.

When a person is married, they become concerned with their mate’s happiness. Their heart is no longer serving God 100 percent.

God completely acknowledges and understands this. That’s why the apostle Paul said it would be better not to get married, but if you do, you are to serve the Lord as a couple throughout your daily lives.

The New Testament is full of verses discussing the importance of marriage, family, how to treat your spouse and children.

If the family isn’t an issue for God, why would He take such concern and give careful instruction on this topic?

Hebrews 13:4 says, “Marriage should be honored by all …” This is a sacred joining of two bodies, hearts, minds and spirits.

To be “honored by all” is to be respected and revered by all – that is, every person. It is not to be mocked, abused or taken lightly.

Divorce is ugly in the sight of God. Divorce destroys the sacred unity of two people which was created by God.

In Matthew 19:3-6, Jesus is being challenged on the topic of divorce by some Pharisees.

He simpy replies that God has created marriage and “what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

Mark 10:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 7:11 both talk about the issue of divorce as well.

It is stressed that if a wife divorces her husband and marries again, she commits adultery. And the same of a husband divorcing his wife. If separation does occur, they should remain unmarried or be reconciled with their spouse.

God even instructs us on caring for family members. In 1 Timothy 5:4, God tells us, “But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents for this is pleasing to God.”

Even in the last few hours on the cross, Jesus asked the apostle John to care for His mother in John 19:25-27. Even in His last moments of life on Earth, through pain and the burden of humankind’s sin, Jesus remembered his mother.

A final point that must be made is the truth of the Second Coming of Christ. The book of Revelations would not be written if it was not true, it was inspired by God.

Revelations even warns those who read this book to take its message to heart. “…blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it…”(Revelations 1.3)

One thing that never ceases to amaze me about humankind is how it continues to reject The Inspired Word of God.

God is here to save us, why do we continue to refuse Him?
