Hey Ames, kiss the Blue Meanies hello

Scott Andresen

Say hello to the Blue Meanies and then kiss your ass goodbye. Or at least that’s what their new CD, Kiss your ass goodbye, tells you to do.

The Blue Meanies aren’t your typical ska-punk band. “People try to put their finger on [our music],” said Billy Spunke, lead singer.

“Carnival punk. Someone dubbed us that, that works really well.”

Whatever you choose to label their brand of music, you’re sure to see something out of the ordinary.

“If anyone has heard us labeled, don’t expect straight out ska-punk,” Spunke said. “Expect everything at once. It can be pretty chaotic.”

Their new CD, which is pretty chaotic itself, was released on Fuse Records after a little spat with their previous record label. Something about the label postponing their CD.

“Fuse saved the day,” Spunke said. “They bought [the CD] and put it out.”

With their 1993 release, Pave the World, under their belt, the Blue Meenies are proud of Kiss your ass goodbye.

“Our album is the best thing we’ve ever done,” Spunke said. “I feel good about it.”

The Blue Meanies will be playing at People’s Bar and Grill Sunday with N.I.H.L.8 and Great Big Freak. The show is all-ages, so bring a friend, and tickets are $4.
