SCC execs look forward to the year
August 31, 1995
ÿÿSenior Class Council President Bryce Freeman and Vice President Murray Williams are hoping Iowa State’s seniors will have a great final year.
The two said they are excited about working on the SCC and hope to bring some original ideas to the council.
“Last year’s council was outstanding,” Freeman said. “Our expectations are to live up to that and to go about it in our own way.”
Freeman is an Ames native majoring in chemical engineering. His campus involvement includes FarmHouse Fraternity, Engineers Week and the GSB Executive Council.
Williams is a journalism major with an emphasis in public relations from Dubuque. He is a district director for PRSSA and works for the Institute for Physical Research and Technology on campus.
Freeman and Williams said their goals for the year include two things: to prepare people for the real world and to let them have a fun senior year.
They hope to implement some ideas from their campaign platform which include creating a job hot line, free membership for one year in the ISU Alumni Association after graduation, a company of the week or month and lots of social activities but they are looking for input from the council. They are also looking for motivated seniors that want to have fun to be members of the Senior Class Council.
“The opportunity to be on [SCC] is amazing,” Williams said.
The two said they hope many seniors apply to be a part of the council. Last year applicants were scarce.
“The SCC is extremely important because, basically, we represent the 5,000 members of the senior class at Iowa State, so it is important to have a broad spectrum of people,” Freeman said.
Once a council is chosen, members will: plan educational programs, work with the senior class challenge, deciding on a senior gift, plan senior week and organize commencement activities.
Selections for the SCC will be made in the next couple of weeks. Applications are due Friday, Sept. 8 and can be picked up in Room 158 or Room 64 of the Union.
