A forum put together by the Ames United Nations Association will focus on grass-root actions to heighten global awareness.

The forum will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Ames Public Library Auditorium.

The forum panel will consist of community groups that will discuss their international activities and concerns. Amnesty International will discuss freeing prisoners of conscience around the world.

The Rotary will focus on sending ambulances and fire engines to Guatemala, and representatives of the United Nations will discuss plans to commemorate U.N. initiatives. Other groups represented will be Ames Church Women United, Ames International Host Families, International Wriers, Kiwanis, Isaac Walton League, Lions Club and the YWCA.

“We’re going to have sort of a community club fest where the different organizations can come and talk about their projects,” said Wayne Osborne, the program coordinator.

“We urge people to come out and find out more information and to become globally aware,” Osborne said. “The idea is to think globally and act locally.”
