Long-time Iowa State professor dies

Clair B. Watson, a retired Iowa State professor, suffered a heart attack and died Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Dedicating 35 years to ISU, Watson was a professor in the department of architecture and head of the Applied Art Department until he retired in 1978.

Watson received several honors and awards throughout his life such as professor of the year in 1959 at ISU and an honorary member to the Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1976.

Watson was an accomplished architect in Iowa as a designer and consultant for several Iowa churches including Helser Chapel Collegiate Presbyterian Church, located in Ames.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Ames Collegiate Presbyterian Church
