We Care Hair salons are holding a nationwide campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Joe Carter, the franchise owner of two Ames We Care Hair salons said: “We have a donation canister on the counter and we are asking clients to give $1 to Jerry’s Kids.”

Carter said that customers who donate will receive a two-ounce bottle of a hair product.

The campaign, which started Aug. 1, will last for eight weeks. “The money will be presented during the telethon halfway through the campaign,” Carter said.

Carter said that We Care Hair expects to raise $75,000 for MDA. Locally, he hopes that the Ames locations will raise $1500 to $2000.

“All of the remaining money will go to next year’s campaign,” he said.

This is the first year that We Care Hair has taken part in the MDA fundraiser. Carter said that the chain will continue to raise money for MDA annually.

There are 170 We Care Hair franchise locations across the United States. Carter said that there are 11 salons in the state of Iowa that are taking part in the campaign.

MDA is a voluntary health agency that is working to prevent 40 neuromuscular diseases. MDA uses private contributions to fund programs of research, professional and public health education and patient and community services.
