Football captains named

Three Iowa State seniors; wide receiver Mike Horacek, offensive lineman Byron Heitz and strong safety Matt Straight, and junior inside linebacker Tim Sanders have been named as captains of the Cyclones’ 1995 football team by a vote of their teammates.

Horacek, an Omaha, Neb., native, started every game last season and owns 32 career catches for 518 yards and three touchdowns. Heitz, a native of Farley, is slated to start at offensive tackle when ISU opens the season on Thursday against Ohio. Straight, of Logan, had 96 tackles for the Cyclones last season. Sanders, from Chicago, earned all-Big Eight honors as ISU’s leading tackler last year, with 126 stops, including 51 solo efforts.

Football pep rally

A Pep Rally for the Iowa State Football Team will be held Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 9 p.m. in Cyclone Stadium. All students and members of the general public are invited. Head Coach Dan McCarney and his staff will be on hand along with members of the 1995 Cyclone football squad. There will also be performances by the ISU Pep Band and Spirit Squads. All fans attending the rally are asked to enter Cyclone Stadium through the south gates.

Free admission to Cyclone Volleyball Tournament

The Cyclone Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 1 and 2 will be free for all attending. The Iowa State volleyball team would like to see as many people come out and show support for the team as possible.

The Cyclones will play Western Michigan at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 1. On Sept. 2 the Cyclones will play Valparaiso at 11 a.m. and Utah at 7:30 p.m.

Anyone attending the ISU matches will also receive a certificate for free admission to the Nov. 7 game against Drake.

Men’s soccer tryouts

The men’s soccer club will hold tryouts at 5:30 p.m. today and Tuesday at the soccer fields just east of the Towers. For more information contact Drew Verts at 292-6534.
