ISU official taking leave

George Strawn, director of the Iowa State Computation Center, has accepted a two-year appointment with the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Strawn will serve as director of the Division of Networking and Communications Research and Infrastructure.

The appointment will allow him to continue his NSF work on restructuring the Internet, which he began in 1991.

He hopes to develop policies and programs that support the development of a high-performance Internet infrastructure for research and education.

The NSF division he will direct also includes programs that support international networking connections for U.S. research and education communities and research programs in both communications and networking.

James Bernard, professor of mechanical engineering, has been appointed interim director during Strawn’s leave of absence.
