To the Editor:

After a terrible losing season I think it is about time to rename the ISU football team.

And what could be a better time than now? We have a new coach with a lot of new players. With a new coach comes new rules and new philosophies.

And I love McCarney’s philosophy: “If you drive drunk you cannot play on this team.”

To further this new philosophy of camaraderie and tutelage is the age-old tradition of apprenticeship. Yes, McCarney is your man, he can help you work out personal as well as athletic obstacles, problems with your girlfriend or wife.

Ask Dan, he can help you- that is what a coach is for: to set an example for his players and help them learn all the fundamentals. So what does all this have to do with a name change? It’s obvious.

The Cyclones are going to win this season, BIG TIME! Or beat their opponents you might say, so why not rename the team to ‘BEATERS’. The Essential Iowa State Football team.

And as we go along, we should all buy season tickets in support of our talented kids, especially all you women out there. You should be proud to have this great coach on our campus- doesn’t it make you feel safe?
