Get your passport ready and take a journey to Campustown, because Brazil awaits your entertainment bones at Cafe Carioca.

There’s nothing like sitting down for a cup of java or eating a hearty meal, Brazilian style. Well now you can do both, and be entertained at the same time, right here in good ole’ Ames.

Cafe Carioca, located on 2408 Lincolnway, is the haven for good times, great food and of course, their coffee. However, the entertainment has been enhancing the atmosphere at the Cafe.

Friday night, this up-and-coming coffee house will be featuring Jack Stowe, a Brazilian guitarist who not only plays Brazilian music, but popular tunes as well.

“The nights frequently end up in a sing-a-long,” said James Hufferd, owner of Cafe Carioca.

If Friday nights aren’t your thing, Saturday afternoons can be an entertaining, stomach-filling and ear-enticing experience.

This Saturday, August 26 from noon until 2:30 p.m., Reggie Greenlaw, a folk guitarist will be hammering away at the hammer dulcimer, which is a Scottish/Irish folk instrument, as well as the mandolin.

While enjoying the atmosphere, you can also eat some grub. Saturday’s lunch special is the feijoada which is a Brazilian national dish that is a hearty meal with smoked sausage, pork, beef and black beans with a tasty sauce and lots of garnishes to go with it.

Saturday night from 8 until 10:30 p.m., Jack Hill will be performing his Spanish classical guitar tunes for an enjoyable time of good sounds and smooth times.

“It’s [an] across the board experience,” Hufferd said.

Get your tastebuds and entertainment-driven bodies down to Cafe Carioca for a unique experience where the purchase of a passport is not necessary.
