Turner transfers after one-year suspension
Iowa State has lost Geoff Turner, again. Turner, a receiver on Iowa State’s football team, will transfer to Colorado State this fall.
Turner, a sophomore from Urbandale, would not have played for the Cyclones this season. He was suspended for one year because of an NCAA rule violation.
”He’s a major-college player and I hoped he would have stayed at Iowa State,” Cyclone head coach Dan McCarney said. “But I wish him the best.”
Turner played in all 11 games last season, operating as a tailback and a split end, catching 21 passes for 236 yards. His kick return average of 19.5 yards is the fourth-best in school history.
Turner will sit out the 1995 season at Colorado State. He then will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Cyclone wrestling gets three more champions
Bobby Douglas isn’t taking his time on restoring faith in his program. He went out and got three blue-chip wrestlers.
Cody Sanderson, a 119-pounder from Heber City, Utah, was a four-time state champion. Amateur Wrestling News ranks Sanderson as the number one 119-pounder in the nation.
Omaha Creighton native Ben Perkins won three Nebraska state titles and was unbeaten during his varsity competition. He is ranked as the second best 160-pounder in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News.
The third recruit is Chin Achebe, a heavyweight from Steubenville, Ohio. Achebe was the Ohio state champion at 215 pounds and is planning on playing football for the Cyclones this fall.
