A taste of Spain at the M-Shop

If you’ve always wanted to sample the fine delicassies of, say, Spain, but have never had the time or the money to travel there, you’re in luck. The Maintenance Shop is bringing a taste of Spain to Ames, featuring a Spanish wine- and cheese-tasting event all this week.

Inspired by the success of their beer-tasting events, this new taste will be available during normal M-Shop hours,10:45 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Ten different types of wines from different regions of Spain were selected for the collection that will be offered for this tasteful event. Brian Messenger, assistant manager at the M-Shop, along with Bill Young, Director of Food Service, tried to find wines that would represent the different regions and styles of Spain.

Messenger hopes that there will be a good turnout for this event, a response similar to the previous beer tasting events at the M-Shop. “Fifty punches were sold for the beer-tasting events, which was a good response considering that the crowd is smaller and younger in the summer.”

The format for the wine-tasting will be a little different than what was used for the beer-tasting. Instead of buying punches, $5.75 plus an I.D. will purchase four tastes of the 10 different wine selections. An assortment of cheese and crackers will be available at $2.50 a tray.

The Maintenance Shop is located in the Memorial Union.
