The blonde duo with puppy-dog eyes
July 17, 1995
They are the long-haired playful blondes with the desire to put their music first, which justifies the reason that Nelson is hot again with the release of their new album entitled Because They Can.
Acclaimed photographer William Wegman put his trademark weimaraners on the cover of the new Nelson disc, which is due out July 18 in stores everywhere. Wegman’s sad-eyed dogs have appeared in various disguises in books, on greeting cards and in the galleries of art museums.
The two large, gray canines are decked out in long, blonde wigs, standing in for Gunnar and Matthew Nelson on the cover of Because They Can, which makes the effect both unsettling and hilarious.
Gunnar stated in a press release, “This lampoons our image so beautifully that it will allow people to get past it. What we’re saying here is: Listen to the music. That’s what’s important.” Gunnar and Matthew’s old stage clothes and some of their videos were sent to this creative man with complete creative control.
Enough about the dogs on the cover of the album — let’s get down to business and talk about the contents inside the album cover. Because They Can contains the hit, “You Got Me All Shook Up,” a song with some great guitar playing and harmony between the Nelson brothers.
One of the songs that not only has catchy lyrics but also some good ear-enticing sounds is “Five O’Clock Plane.” Their sound is more alive on this album, and there are some fantastic new songs which will be rising up on the charts in the near future.
