Attention, thespians!
For those who have aspired to star on the stage, the Des Moines Playhouse has two opportunities for potential actors. Auditions for the fall musical Oliver! will be this Sunday, July 30 at 2 p.m.
Oliver! is the story of a London orphan seeking a loving home after running away from a cruel workhouse.
The musical calls for women and men of all ages, including children up to 16 and a large chorus of boys and adults. Those auditioning should bring a prepared song; an accompanist will be provided.
Performance dates for Oliver! are September 8 through October 8.
Auditions for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer are coming up Sunday, August 13 at 2 p.m. The show is based on Mark Twain’s familiar story of mischief and American youth.
The production calls for men and women of all ages, especially children under 16. It might be helpful for auditioning adults to be able to play musical instruments (guitar, banjo, fiddle, etc.), but it is not required.
Performance dates for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer are September 22 to October 8.
For questions about either audition or performance, please contact Sherryl Diebel at 277-6261.
More work for actors
The Ingersoll Dinner Theater will hold auditions for the mainstage production of Phantom next Monday, July 21, at 7 p.m.
Don’t confuse this production with that other phantom story; the two are quite different. “There were basically two versions written,” Scott Kees, director of marketing, explained.
“There was the Lloyd Webber one, Phantom of the Opera, and this version, which was actually written before the other. It’s the same story, but the difference is in this one, the phantom is more of a misunderstood creature than a horrible arch-villain. It’s sort of a Frankenstein-type story.”
They are looking for both male and female actors, with strong voices and a broad range. Performers should bring a piece ready to sing; piano accompaniment will be provided.
Performance dates for Phantom are September 22 through October 29.
For more information, please call the Ingersoll Theater Box Office at 274-4686.
