Travis Korver hit a positive note in the middle of the summer swelter. The positive note comes on the heels of winning the Iowa Masters golf championship held at the Veenker Memorial golf course in Ames.

The Orange City native avenged a second-place finish last year by shooting five under par for 67 in the second-round and holding on for the victory with an on-par 72 in the final round to take the championship.

Fellow ISU teammate, Donnie Teeter, of Algona, finished in a tie for fourth. Teeter won the Master’s last year.

Korver shot a 54-hole total of 208 beating Sean Rowen of Indianapolis, a member of Iowa’s golf team, by four strokes.

The ISU junior plans to play in three more designated point-event tournaments this summer. He’ll start this tournament swing off in Storm Lake at the Creek Amateur in two weeks.

From there he’ll move on to the Northwest Amateur in Spencer and then make his trek complete at the Iowa Amateur at Wakonda in Des Moines in August.

Korver placed first in a field of 60, including a name familiar to Cyclone football fans, Ty Stewart. Stewart finished 30th with a 226 total.

He also helped the Cyclones to a fourth-place finish at the Big Eight tournament and helped the squad gain a berth into the NCAA Regional Tournament. He tied for sixth in the individual race with rounds of 73-73-72.
