Spend some quality time with Dad

J. Ranae Ragee

Do you find yourself saying, “If only I could find an arts festival

that has something for everyone, including good ol’ Dad?” If so, you should

definitely head on out to the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Arts Council’s

annual Celebration of the Arts on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, from 10

a.m. to 7 p.m.

This festival has something for everyone, including good ol’ Dad. “This

is a yearly event that always falls on Father’s Day,” Sandra Halford, Arts

Festival assistant, said. “It’s a lot of fun, we have great food, good

talent and a little something for everyone. Last year we had 7,000 people

and expect 7,000-plus this year. No one ever wants to leave.”

Celebration of the Arts offers a variety of music and the sampling of

mouth-watering delights from 10 local eateries. Better yet, it will be held

on the grounds of historic Brucemore Mansion, located at 2160 Linden Drive

SE, and tours will be offered throughout the day for a regular admission

price, so everyone can stroll with their significant other or Dad through

the gardens.

Three stages of music ensure you’ll be tapping your toes all day long

to many unique beats, from jazz, soul and rock to folk, big band and

classical.

Admission to Celebration of the Arts is $5 and parking is available at

the Washington High School parking lot. Shuttle buses run all day from the

parking lot to the front gate.
