Ames Community Theater of Recreational Services (ACTORS) will present Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat this Friday at 8 p.m. at Fisher Theater.

Director/Choreographer Susan Thomas Lee, formally of the marketing and entertainment department of Walt Disney Studios, has put together a star-studded production that boasts a cast of 60-plus, ranging in age from six to 60 years.

The story is loosely based on the biblical account of Joseph and his coat of many colors. The musical, developed comedically in two acts, tells the story of how Joseph’s two brothers plotted to kill him but sold him into slavery instead.

The story follows Joseph’s life as a slave in Egypt, to a prisoner in jail and finally to a palace as a respected governor of all of the lands of Pharaoh.

Jamie Poulsen, 1994 winner of five Tellys (National Ad Awards), composer and performer of music for numerous corporate films and commercials, brings to Joseph his dynamic musical skill and talent as music director, orchestra conductor and keyboard artist. Poulsen’s love for theater and music help to make this production lively, with fast-paced song and dance.

Other performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat are June 24, 30 and July 1 at 8 p.m. at Fisher Theater. The cost is $12.50 per ticket. Group discounts are available. Tickets are available at the Iowa State Center box office, any Ticketmaster outlet or charge by phone at 233-1888.
