Meeting a higher standard
June 26, 1995
The fact that so many ISU athletes have gotten into trouble this past year is very disturbing. These athletes must realize that they have to live by a separate set of rules and standards than the typical college student.
They represent this university, the students, the administration and the coaches. Continuing to act in a manner that suggests that they are “above the law” cannot be tolerated at an institution that has provided a scholarship and an education for them.
Athletes will always be scrutinized, rightly or wrongly, and their actions will always be a direct reflection of ISU.
The coaches and administration have shown, by example, that they are not going to stand for this type of activity and should be commended. The message that ISU is sending to these athletes is a good one: screw up and you’re gone.
