Classic rock: Boston
The new trend in “alternative” music hasn’t dampened the spirits of true rock ‘n roll. That rock ‘n roll is none other than the classics heard on KGGO, and it lives in Ames this summer.
Hilton Coliseum brings supergroup Boston to Ames on July 30. Original members Tom Scholz and Brad Delp have enlisted the help of Gary Pihl, Fran Cosmo, David Sikes and Curley Smith to embark on the band’s first tour in seven years.
Boston’s self-titled debut album currently holds the distinction of being the third best selling album of all-time with sales in excess of 15 million. Their latest release, Walk On, has been certified multi-platinum.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, June 29 at 10 a.m. and are $45, $33 and $23. Tickets are available at the Iowa State Center Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets or charge by phone at 233-1888.
KGGO plays it, Hilton showcases it.
It’s baaaack . . .
For those who were disappointed when some of the year’s most intriguing yet short-lived films shafted our fair town, the Committee on Lectures has devised a way to resurrect these movies for everyone to see.
Tonight, for instance, the committee will screen Hoop Dreams at 7:30 p.m. in the Pioneer Room of the Memorial Union. It is free to everyone.
Hoop Dreams is part of The I-Blinked-and-Missed-It Film Series, which is in its fifth year of existence. “In Ames, frequently, if you don’t move quickly, if a movie comes to town at all, you don’t get to see it,” Pat Miller, coordinator of the Committee on Lectures, explained. “So the committee decided to pick up films that people have missed.”
Upcoming films include Dolores Claibourne July 6, and Don Juan deMarco July 13. Both shows appear in the Pioneer Room at 7:30 p.m. and are free of charge.
