Women’s soccer to debut at Iowa State
World Cup women’s soccer right here in Cyclone country. Well, maybe not quite that caliber yet, but as soon as Iowa State makes an announcement on the new women’s soccer head coach, the ball will be rolling.
“We’ve closed the position and completed the application process,” Elaine Hieber, Associate Athletics Director, said. “We have three extremely qualified candidates and have made our selection. We’re currently following the university’s policy.”
The announcement could come as early as next week, Hieber said. “We want to move as quickly as we can.”
“We’re very pleased and want to finalize the process and take the next step.”
Women’s soccer was supposed to be added to Cyclone athletics in the fall of 1994, but it was delayed due to the financial status of Iowa State athletics.
Rec Center open for students’ enjoyment
Ahh, summertime. The sun is shining down, the outdoor basketball courts are melting into a puddle of tar and you desperately want to play a game of pick-up ball.
Have no fear, the Lied Recreation Athletic Center is here. The Rec Center is open in the summer for all those athletic-type people to use and enjoy.
“We’re still trying to keep this a driving force, an informal rec,” Steve VanDerKamp, facilities director, said. “Word of mouth really helps; if you’re a freshman and haven’t heard of the Rec, then I don’t know where you’ve been.”
The Center is open at 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Sundays.
