Iowa State wrestling dominates first dual in Hilton Coliseum

Iowa State defeated Ohio University in its first dual in Hilton Coliseum of the season by a score of 33-6.
The dual started out with a forfeit as Ohio’s redshirt junior Shakur Laney pulled out of the bout due to weight complications at 125-pounds.
With the Cyclones up 6-0 early, they turned to redshirt freshman Austin Gomez at 133-pounds. Gomez beat redshirt sophomore Mario Guillen by 5-3 decision, and the Cyclones led 9-0.
At 141-pounds, redshirt sophomore Ian Parker continued Iowa State’s dominance by adding on a 12-1 major decision and increasing the Cyclone lead to 13-0.
At 149-pounds, redshirt sophomore Jarrett Degen added six to the Cyclone lead with a win by fall over Ohio’s redshirt freshman Alec Hagan.
Redshirt junior Chase Straw was the first defeat of the night for the Cyclones. Bobcat freshman Zac Carson won by 7-4 decision at 157-pounds
At 165-pounds, redshirt senior Skyler St. John was defeated in his first dual bout of the year by 4-3 decision to Ohio freshman Colt Yinger.
Redshirt freshman Marcus Coleman topped Ohio redshirt sophomore Joe Terry by 14-6 major decision at 174-pounds.
At 184-pounds, redshirt sophomore Sam Colbray appeared to have been defeated, but after a couple of reviews, Colbray defeated Ohio junior Hunter Yeargen by 9-8 decision.
Redshirt senior Willie Miklus won his bout at 197-pounds by technical fall over Ohio redshirt junior Nathan Hall.
Heavyweight redshirt sophomore Gannon Gremmel defeated redshirt senior Zach Parker of Ohio by 7-3 decision, sealing a comfortable win for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones were deducted a team point near the end of the dual.
Iowa State wrestling will be back on Tuesday, Jan. 1 to compete in the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
