Christmas treats that won’t cost you an arm and a leg

Chocolate Chip Christmas Cookies

Ingredients 

–     8 tablespoons salted butter melted

–     ½ cup brown sugar

–     ¼ cup granulated sugar

–     1 large egg

–     2 teaspoons vanilla extract

–     1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour

–     1 teaspoon baking soda

–     ½ teaspoon salt

–     ½ cup dark chocolate chips

–     ½ cup white chocolate chips

–     ¼ cup red and green sprinkles

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix the melted butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Blend in an egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour in flour, baking soda and salt.
  5. Stir in the dark and white chocolate chips and sprinkles.
  6. Form 9 dough balls.
  7. Bake for 11 minutes.

Strawberry Christmas Tree

Ingredients

–     Oreos

–     Strawberries

–     White chocolate chips

–     White sprinkles

–     Green food coloring

–     Butter

Steps

  1. Wash strawberries.
  2. In a microwavable bowl, mix a cup of white chocolate chips and half a tablespoon of butter.
  3. Once the white chocolate mix is melted together, blend in the green food coloring.
  4. Dip the strawberries in the mix and sprinkle with sprinkles. Let strawberries harden.
  5. Once the strawberries are dry, cut off the stem.
  6. Open an Oreo cookie so the inner frosting is exposed (acting like snow).
  7. Place the chocolate covered strawberry on top.

Chocolate Cringle Cookies

Ingredients

–     3 cups all-purpose flour

–     1 teaspoon baking powder

–     1 teaspoon baking soda

–     1/8 teaspoon salt

–     1 cup margarine or butter

–     2 eggs

–     1 ½ cups sugar

–     1 teaspoon vanilla

–     1/3 cup baking cocoa

–     1/4 cup powdered sugar

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cocoa and sugar.
  3. In smaller bowl, mix together butter, eggs and vanilla.
  4. Slowly blend in the small bowl mixture to the large bowl mixture and mix until smooth.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls.
  6. Sprinkle the balls with powder sugar.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes.

Peanut Butter Blossoms

Ingredients

–     1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

–     ½ cup sugar

–     ½ cup firmly packed brown sugar

–     teaspoon baking soda

–     ½ teaspoon salt

–     ½ cup shortening

–     ½ cup peanut butter

–     tablespoons milk

–     teaspoon vanilla

–     egg

–     A sprinkle of sugar

–     48 Hershey’s Kisses Brand milk chocolates, unwrapped

Steps 

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In large bowl, mix flour, 1/2 cup sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, shortening, peanut butter, milk, vanilla and egg.
  3. Roll dough into small balls.
  4. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.
  5. Immediately push in a chocolate kiss.

Ginger Snaps

Ingredients

–     cup packed brown sugar

–     ¾ cup shortening

–     ¼ cup molasses

–     egg

–     2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

–     teaspoons baking soda

–     teaspoon ground cinnamon

–     teaspoon ground ginger

–     ½ teaspoon ground cloves

–     ¼ teaspoon salt

–     A sprinkle of sugar

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. In large bowl, mix brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg. Mix in remaining ingredients except sugar.
  3. Roll dough into balls.
  4. Sprinkle top of balls with sugar.
  5. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
