Barnhart shows out in collegiate debut

The Iowa State men’s golf team began its season Monday at the Colonial Collegiate Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. 

The five Cyclones to represent Iowa State in their first tournament; Frank Lindwall, Tripp Kinney, Ricky Costello, Lachlan Barker, and Brock Barnhart. 

Freshman Brock Barnhart out of Cedar Rapids had quite the collegiate debut. Barnhart started off strong, beginning on the back nine, Barnhart birdied the 15th, 16th and 17th hole, leaving him one under as he concluded the first nine holes. 

During the second round of the tournament, Barnhart was able to make two birdies after making bogey on 3 of the 5 first holes. Barnhart ended the day with a 36 on the front nine and a 38 on the back. Barnhart is tied in 13th place with Luke O’Neill from Kansas State. Barnhart concluded the first day with a score of 142, shooting 68 in the first round and 74 in the second.

Junior Lachlan Barker went two under for first 18 holes, finishing with a score of 73. Barker was consistent in his first three holes, he double-bogied the 13th hole setting him back a few strokes.

Barker had another fluid round during the second 18, Barker only bogied two of the first nine holes, shooting a 37 on the front. On the back nine, Barker stayed in his rhythm and made birdie on the 11th and 18th hole. Barker is in a 5-way tie for 22nd place headed into day two with a score of 145.

Senior Tripp Kinney finished the first day 9 over, with a score of 149. Kinney had a bogey on 6 of the first 18 holes played this morning. Kinney made one birdie on hole 6. Freshman Lukas Pany shot a 80 in the first and second round with a score of 160 for the first day. Right next to Pany is Junior Frank Lindwall, Lindwall had a 161 after the first day. 

The Cyclones left the first two rounds tied in last place with West Virginia, with a total score of 593. The men’s golf team will begin in day two of the invitational Tuesday morning.
