ISU Softball Knight’s Classic Tournament Preview
February 13, 2020
The Cyclones trip to Hawaii was very successful with a 4-1 start, which is their best mark to begin the season since 2016.
The cyclones were glad to get back on the softball dirt and not on the artificial turf that they been practicing
Coach Pinkerton was happing with his team performance he really likes hitting, the pitching, the underclassman performance, and his coaching staff decision making during this tournament. But Pinkerton said they’re still plenty of stuff to improve on like said he would like his team to improve on base running, not making errors throws and ground balls.
Just simple stuff they can easily clean up Coach Pinkerton was very impressed with his young team
Even though there are veteran players on the team there a lot of underclassmen with last weekend tournaments.
Sami Williams was named the Paradise Classic’s Most Valuable Player, Williams led the Big 12 in home runs (4), RBIs (13), total bases (20) and slugging percentage (1.111) over opening weekend. So I ask Sami Williams on how the team did this weekend games.
She loved the team’s effect and a lot of the execution, she also said that the team is still getting used to the softball dirt as they been practicing on the artificial turf. She agrees with a lot the same thing her coach with some mental error that she said it can easily be fixed. Then I ask Sami how she thought the freshman did in Hawaii, She thought they did a great job in Hawaii with effect and competing hard in the five games.
Then asked freshmen Pitcher Ellie Spelhaug I ask her how her first collegiate softball start felt?
she said he was pretty nervous and had some butterflies in her stomach with is pretty normal.but after the first three innings after that, she was lock-in ready to go and really making sure she set the tone against her opponents
I also asked Ellie how her and the other freshman did in their first collegiate softball she thought they did a great job in Hawaii with effect and competing hard in the five games.
Now heading into the is weekend Knight’s Classic Tournament at Orlando Florida, we will see how softball team success carrying over to Friday’s games Villanova 1 PM and UCF 6 p.m.
