Letter: Precautions of the novel Coronavirus
February 11, 2020
I am a concerned scientist who would like to highlight the dangers of the novel coronavirus to the general public, as their leadership including the CDC and University has failed them.
If you had the option to have everyone cancel classes and stay home for 14 days or PCR checked every individual every day and no one got sick, a person would look like the town crier.
Instead no testing is done, and the same drastic steps will be necessary anyways, expect nearly 4,000 ISU student would be dead in under four months from case #1 unchecked at a R-naught= 4.08.
No student, employee or person would accept those risks from standing six feet near a healthy person. Yet, those are the realities that our government has recklessly imposed on the American people. The idea of this virus burning out only comes after complete transmission to the population.
The mortality rate is not calculated by taking the total deaths/total cases on the same day, because people don’t die the same day they arrive at the hospital. The doctor was in the hospital for several weeks before dying. No one would assume the 10 percent chance of death and another 10 percent chance of permanent damage.
