Sexual assault reported at Oak/Elm Residence Hall

A person reported being sexually assaulted in the Oak/Elm Residence Hall. Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety sent out a crime warning notification Sunday evening for the incident, which reportedly happened the same day.

April 20

A person reported being sexually assaulted at a Frederiksen Court apartment. Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety sent out a crime warning notification stating the event reportedly took place on April 17.

April 17

A person reported being sexually assaulted at 311 Ash Ave., a non-campus property owned by a recognized student organization. The location was FarmHouse Fraternity. Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety emailed a crime warning notification Monday evening and the incident was said to have happened the day prior.

April 9

A person reported an incident of sexual assault in the Frederiksen Court Apartments. Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety emailed a crime warning notification Sunday night for the incident, which reportedly happened the same day. 

Jan. 19

A person reported being sexually assaulted in Linden Hall. Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety emailed a crime warning notification Thursday night for the incident, which occurred Wednesday night. The perpetrator was an acquaintance, according to the release. This is the first sexual assault reported in the spring 2023 semester. 

In accordance with the Clery Act, all colleges and universities accepting financial aid from federal programs must report information regarding crime within a respective distance of the institution.

Reports from the fall 2022 semester

Dec. 6

Two individuals reported they were sexually assaulted in a residence hall and parking lot.

Both incidents occurred Saturday, and both individuals reported being assaulted by an acquaintance. The Iowa State University Department of Public Safety sent a crime warning email Tuesday night regarding the incidents.

Incident one occurred at Birch Residence Hall, and the second incident occurred in Lot 54, which is located next to the Freeman Residence Hall.

The Clery Act requires that all colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs report such incidents, according to the release.

Oct. 25 

A person reported being sexually assaulted in Geoffroy Hall.

Iowa State University Department of Public Safety released a crime warning notification Tuesday night regarding the incident. According to the release, the incident occurred on or around Sunday. The perpetrator was an acquaintance of the victim, according to the release.

According to the Clery Act, all colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs are required to report information about crime on or near campus.

Sept. 17

A crime warning notification was emailed to Iowa State students on Sept. 21. According to the email, an individual reported being forcibly fondled by an acquaintance.

The incident occurred on Sept. 17 at 223 Lynn Ave., the property of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.

Sept. 5

A crime alert was issued by Iowa State’s Department of Public Safety Sunday afternoon after a person reported being sexually assaulted by an acquaintance. 

The incident took place on Sept. 4 in Willow Hall.

Aug. 29

A person reported being sexually assaulted Sunday at Schilletter – University Village. 

Iowa State University Department of Public Safety released a campus crime notification regarding the incident Monday morning. According to the release, the perpetrator was an acquaintance of the victim.

 Aug. 23

A person reported being sexually assaulted Tuesday in Larch Hall.

Iowa State University Department of Public Safety released a campus crime notification regarding the incident Tuesday afternoon. According to the release, the perpetrator was an acquaintance of the victim.

Response and Resource Information according to ISU Department of Public Safety 

  • The only person responsible for sexual assault is the perpetrator. Sexual misconduct is treated seriously by Iowa State University and its community partners; criminal charges and/or severe disciplinary actions can be filed and/or imposed. It is a violation of university policy to engage in sexual activities without affirmative consent.
  • Confidential, local advocacy services are available 24-hours per day through the Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support (ACCESS). Refer to http://www.assaultcarecenter.org/ or call 515-292-5378 for further assistance.
  • The university has developed a comprehensive array of services to assist victims. Information regarding sexual misconduct and sexual assault, including campus and community resources, may be found at: http://www.dso.iastate.edu/sexualmisconduct/.
  • For purposes of personal health and evidence preservation, victims are strongly encouraged to seek medical attention at the nearest hospital immediately following a sexual assault or fondling, even if there are no obvious physical injuries. Sexual assault examinations are free and conducted by specially trained medical professionals. An examination does not obligate someone to participate in any kind of law enforcement or judicial action.
  • Sexual assault is considered to be a severe form of sexual harassment. A victim may wish to file a complaint with the Title IX Coordinator, who is responsible for ensuring a non-discriminatory campus environment that is free from harassment.
