Iowa State battled hard to come out with a close victory against DMACC on Sunday.

DMACC came out hot early in the 5th inning after a wild throw to first by the Iowa State pitcher, Shannon Mortimer, allowed two runners to score. Another errant throw from Mortimer later in the inning would let another DMACC runner score to put Iowa State down 0-2.

Iowa State would answer back with a score of their own off a double to deep left field from Senior Mikayla Ramos.

The Cyclones loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6th inning, which led to a score from a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 2-3.

A couple of hits into shallow center field would give Iowa State the lead in the 8th inning to put them up 4-3.

DMACC answered back with a hit of their own to bring a runner home from second base and tie up the game. Later in the same inning, an error from the Iowa State shortstop would allow another DMACC runner to score, giving them a 4-5 lead.

Iowa State would surge past a crazy double play from the DMACC first baseman to tie the game back up late in the 9th inning. Another great hit from Senior Sarah Tyree would allow two more runs to score to extend Iowa State’s lead to 7-5.

A stand-up triple in the 10th inning would give Iowa State the intensity to finish the game and come away with an 8-5 win over DMACC.

Iowa State will head to Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Saturday, October 2nd, to play in the Big 4 Classic against Drake, UNI and the University of Iowa.
