Softball displays explosive hitting in win over Iowa Central

Iowa State put on a hitting show in the first game of the fall season against Iowa Central. 

Iowa State opened the game out strong in the bottom of the first inning as a shot deep to the left-field wall left a runner on second.

Two more quick hits followed, to load the bases for Iowa State. 

The first score of the game came from a sac fly to left field which scored the runner on third.

A hit past the second fielder puts Iowa State up 3-0 at the end of the first inning.

Iowa State started the bottom of the second inning with a hit and a base on balls. A fly-out moved the runner from second to third before a ground ball to third base brings her home to put them up 4-0 after two innings.

Iowa Central tried to answer back in the top of the 3rd with two on base, after a hit by pitch and a successful bunt. However, two quick outs brought Iowa State back out.

Iowa State continued their hitting onslaught in the bottom of the 3rd as a single and a pair of doubles put ISU up 6-0 after three.

Iowa Central got on the board early in the 4th inning with a solo home run to left field to put the score to 6-1. 

Iowa State answered back in the bottom of the 4th inning with a single to center field. A hard hit ball to the right-field wall brought the runner on second home, to put the score to 7-1.

A few more hits in the bottom of the 5th put Iowa State up 9-1 after five.

Iowa State started off strong in the bottom of the 6th with a pair of singles and a double which put them up 10-1 with two on base.

A 3-run homer, followed by a solo home run put Iowa State up 14-1. 

A couple of hits and a base on balls loads the bases for Iowa State again. An errant throw to first from the Iowa Central shortstop puts Iowa State up 16-1.

Another errant throw, this time coming from the catcher, puts Iowa State up 17-1 after six.

Iowa Central answered back with a triple, scoring a runner from second and putting the score to 17-2 in the top of the 7th. 

After hitting one batter and walking another, Iowa Central gave up a hit deep to the right-field wall, putting Iowa State up 19-2. 

Iowa State would leave the inning up 20-2.

The bottom of the 8th inning started with a score for Iowa State, after a single and a stolen base.

Another single to right field later in the inning puts Iowa State up 22-2 after eight innings.

Iowa State’s final pitcher would clean up the rest of the Iowa Central lineup, striking out four of the next six batters. 

Iowa State would finish their scoring onslaught in the bottom of the 9th as two singles and a double put them ahead 24-2. 

Three quick outs in the bottom of the 10th would leave the Cyclones with a 24-2 win over Iowa Central.

Iowa State will look to keep this momentum going forward into the upcoming games.

The Iowa State Softball team will travel to Chicago to play a doubleheader against DePaul Sunday, September 19th at noon central time.
