Iowa State looks to put finishing touches on lineup as fall season approaches the end
September 25, 2021
As the fall season starts to wrap up, Iowa State will look to iron out some final details with the team’s identity. Iowa State is set to play DMACC at home on September 26th, which will be the last game before the Big 4 Classic next weekend in Cedar Falls.
Iowa State is coming off a 15-1 victory over Kirkwood at home. The team gets one day off before facing DMACC on Sunday.
Head Coach Jamie Pinkerton said that the game plan “doesn’t really change this weekend with playing 10 inning games, we’re going to do what we did against Iowa Central and like we did against DePaul.”
Even with the short rest before the next game, the Cyclones are looking to come out and play a competitive ballgame against DMACC.
Iowa State showed promising attributes in each of the games so far in the fall season.
“We are getting a lot done that we want to get done,” said Pinkerton.
They won each game by comfortable margins and are getting close to figuring out positions for their players. The fall season is the time for the team to experiment with positions and figure out roles for the players.
“It is starting to get time to sit down with the players at the end of the fall…and say here’s where you are at, here’s your defined role and then let them mentally prepare to do that,” said Pinkerton.
As the fall season comes to a close, many of the players have had the chance to show off their talent and prove themselves on the field. Players will get one last chance to fight for their positions on Sunday against the Bears.
Going into the Big 4 Classic, the Cyclones want to have a general idea of what the starting lineup will look like and get practice with the combinations that may become the team seen playing in the spring.
For the remainder of the fall season, Pinkerton made it clear that they are going to “spread out the at-bats amongst the players that are fighting for positions.”
It has become clear that Iowa State is hitting very well, so they are going to give players the final opportunity to prove themselves at the plate.
Iowa State will host DMACC in Ames on Sunday, September 26th at 2 p.m.
