CALS week secures additional funding
Zero no votes were cast this week in a meeting that featured a funding bill and multiple confirmations to the Election Commission and Senate committees.
Representatives from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council were present to discuss the specifics of a funding request, which passed unanimously.
The larger line items on the bill were tent rentals along with pizza and ice cream that will be available to students during the week.
CALS week takes place each year; this year, it will take place during the last week of September.
“It’s really great to promote the work we do in CALS and bring together people from across the university,” said Lydia Johnson, a senior in agricultural and life sciences education and president of CALS council. “It’s kind of been a tradition on campus but we’re really excited this year to expand it and have a lot more opportunities available.”
The representatives were requesting funds from the events account which has $50,000 designated for events that must be free, open to all students and entertaining or social in nature, according to the Student Government bylaws.
“We’ll set up right on Central Campus with two tents. One tent will be filled with lunch every day—free lunch for students, faculty, staff, anyone at the university—and the second tent will be filled with speakers each day,” Johnson said.
The bill was passed unanimously, and a total of $5,000 will be transferred to the CALS Student Council.
David Heidenreich, a junior in mechanical engineering, was unanimously confirmed as a residence hall senator. Heidenreich said he has been involved in IRHA on and off for the past two years.
