Big Wigs Bar will be throwing an anniversary party to celebrate one year of being open in Ames.

Big Wigs is a gay bar and nightclub that hosts not only regular weekend drag shows, but other events like karaoke, bingo and drag brunch. It is also the first bar in over 15 years to be run as a gay bar in the Ames area.

Big Wigs, which opened on Oct. 22, 2021, will host the one-year anniversary event exactly one year later on Saturday.

The event will be hosted at the bar located at 6008 W. Lincoln Way, and the doors to the bar will open at 8 p.m. to those 18 and older.

“We’re going to have door prizes, specifically Smirnoff, and we’ll have free champagne at 10:22 p.m.,” said Vanessa Taylor, owner of Big Wigs Bar. “There will also be a couple drawings for 2023 VIP cards, which gives you free cover for the entirety of 2023.”

If door prizes and raffles are not your thing, the fun will not end there, as there will be a drag show starting at 10 p.m.

Since this is a bigger event, there will also be a few special guests.

Mokha Montrese, an entertainer based in Chicago, will join Taylor, Anjila Cavalier, Ava J Tremaine and Dominique Cass in putting on the drag show.

The show will be followed by DJ Jaxx Envy who will take over the floor for a dance party.
