This Halloween weekend, Big Wigs Bar will host a Halloween party and costume contest featuring a drag show, special guests, prizes and more following a successful one-year anniversary.

The event will take place Saturday, and participants must be 18 or older.

The owner of Big Wigs, Vanessa Taylor, shared that this will be Big Wigs’ second time hosting a Halloween event with a costume contest. Last year’s event took place exactly one week after the opening of the bar, which is Ames’ only LGBTQIA+ bar.

“Last year we had only been open for around a week but it ended up being one of our busiest nights of the year,” Taylor said.

This year’s event will include a drag show featuring a special guest, a dance floor and a costume contest with prizes.

The schedule for the night begins at 10 p.m. with a drag show featuring the bar’s regular cast. EdduarExotic!, a special guest from Minnesota, will join the group in putting on a show.

Following the show, DJ Nick Bitz will take over the dance floor until the costume contest begins.

The costume contest will take place at midnight and include first, second and third-place prizes for contestants.

The first-place winner will receive $100, second place will win $50 and third place will win $25.

“We may increase those prices but that is what we’re currently sitting at for prizes,” Taylor said.
