ISU Housing Fair to showcase new living options
Iowa State will be hosting its bi-annual Housing Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union. The Housing Fair provides students with the opportunity to see what living options are available in Ames and learn more about their rights as tenants.
During this event, most rental properties will show which units they have left to fill and offer limited time deals to students.
“It’s never too early to research your options,” said Megan Moore, a marketing specialist at Iowa State. “Whether it’s pet policies, snow removal, lawn care or strictly price, it’s important for students to weigh all amenities and features in one place before making a decision on a new lease.”
There will be 20 vendors overall in attendance at this semester’s fair. Some of the vendors that will be at the event include Campustown, Copper Beech Townhomes and The Quarters.
“That’s what’s great about the housing fair, students do have that opportunity to ‘one-stop shop’ and compare,” Moore said. “We want students to be informed about making a big decision like signing a lease or housing contract, so this is a great way for them to feel empowered that they have explored their options and feel confident making their next move.”
Iowa State’s Student Legal Services will be in attendance along with the department of dining and residence to aid students in comparing on-campus dining and housing options to off-campus apartments.
Student Legal Services provides free and confidential services to currently enrolled students. The organization also provides law-related educational programs on a variety of topics for students, student groups and others within the university community as stated on ISU’s website.
Students are encouraged to bring their student ID to swipe into the event and prepare any questions they may have about the various housing options. Admission for any attendees is free.
The Housing Fair staff will be giving away free clear stadium bags to the first 30 students who come to the event in addition to many free promo items from participating vendors.
Additional information and a full list of vendors can be found on the student engagement website.
