Comedian Preacher Lawson will be performing stand-up at After Dark on Feb. 24

Comedian Preacher Lawson became a fan favorite on “America’s Got Talent” in 2017, placing in the top 10. Two years later, he was invited back for “AGT: The Champions,” where he placed fifth.

Lawson will be performing his stand-up set at After Dark at 11 p.m. Friday in the Great Hall. It is a perfect coincidence for those who cannot make it to Des Moines for his Thursday show at The Funny Bone or prefer a free option.

“We didn’t know what his schedule was going to be, we booked him in November,” said Christian Grensteiner, Student Union Board special events co-director. “It just kind of worked out that way.”

Iowa State’s comedy improv troupe Grandma Mojo’s will be performing at 9 p.m.

“We chose another comedian act for the 9 p.m. show because it would make the most sense to preview the comedian show,” said Poni Okene, Student Union Board special events co-director. “Especially because a lot of comedians like to have an opener.”

This semester, Grandma Mojo’s has performed four times at the Maintenance Shop. Typically, these performances are $1 at the door, but Friday’s performance will be free.

“At the end of each SUB event we have reports, and all the reports [for Grandma Mojo’s] are usually above 100 people each time,” Grensteiner said. “It’s just really funny to watch, the games they play with their improv comedy is just so funny and just so out of pocket sometimes.”

From 10 p.m. to midnight, free Panda Express will be available in the Memorial Union Commons.

In the Cardinal Room, the Gaming and Esports Club is sponsoring game time in the Cardinal Room.

An escape room will be held in rooms 3560 and 3580 in the Memorial Union from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The Art Gallery will be open until 11 p.m. featuring an art exhibit called “Home.”

As always, bingo, karaoke, Cybowl & Billiards and a craft in the Workspace will be available. The craft for this event is a pom pom mirror.
