Iowa State guard Denae Fritz entered the transfer portal Tuesday evening.

Fritz would have been a redshirt sophomore for the Cyclones in the 2023-24 season. She would have also gotten a bigger role with the tranfer portal already hitting the Cyclones hard.

The news of Fritz entering the portal came shortly after multiple other Cyclones left the team. Lexi Donarski, Morgan Kane, Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw and Maggie Vick all announced they would enter the transfer portal following the 2022-23 season.

Fritz broke onto the scene in 2022-23, following a year where she was sidelined due to injury. Fritz showed flashes early on and was expected to take up a bigger role.

Although Fritz started the 2022-23 campaign slowly, she started to get on a roll later in the season, setting new personal bests week after week. Fritz’s best game came against Kansas late in the year where she broke out for 26 points and five rebounds.

Fritz was also a key piece in the Cyclones Big 12 Championship run where she played a majority of the minutes in every game. Fritz was a main starter going into the year, and she finished her year averaging 8.8 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

With Fritz entering the transfer portal, only two Cyclone starters remain on the team. Emily Ryan and Nyamer Diew.
