BREAKING: Nurse practitioner arrested for sexual exploitation of a minor
Editor’s Note: This story was updated to include additional charges.
Ames Police arrested Carl D. Markley, nurse practitioner, on Friday for sexual exploitation of a minor, a Class C felony, according to a news release from Sgt. Amber Christian.
The Ames Police Department was responding to a report of potential child sexual abuse from a concerned citizen. Detectives searched the 44-year-old’s residence and business with a warrant and performed an extensive investigation, and they are continuing to investigate.
“It’s very possible that [this] has affected others in our community,” Christian said.
According to Christian, the minor was 15 or 16 at the time of abuse, and the investigation has been going on for months. Christian said the investigators have been closely examining evidence until they had enough probable cause to warrant an arrest.
On May 1, Markley was arrested for human trafficking, two counts of pimping and two counts of prostitution.
“We encourage anyone with information to come forward and speak with our investigators,” Christian said.
Information can be given to the Ames Police Department or the anonymous tip line at 515-239-5533.
