The Iowa State football team will officially lose last season’s leading rusher after Jirehl Brock voluntarily left the team according to an athletic department spokesperson, amidst gambling allegations.
After being added to the list of Iowa State athletes under investigation for tampering with records earlier this month, Brock chose to leave the team on Monday. He has been accused of placing over 1,300 bets and wagered over $12,000, according to the Des Moines Register.
Amongst those alleged wagers Brock is accused of placing bets on four Iowa State football games, two of which he was active for, and 13 Iowa State basketball games.
Brock had not been participating in the team’s fall camp along with quarterback Hunter Dekkers, tight end DeShawn Hanika and offensive linemen Jacob Remsburg who are currently still on the team.
Brock appeared in 10 games last football season where he battled injuries throughout the entire year and finished with 445 yards and three rushing touchdowns. He became the second player in the gambling investigation to leave the team after defensive lineman Isaiah Lee did so on August 14.
Lee also appeared in 10 games for Iowa State last season and compiled 22 total tackles during his junior season. The Chicago native allegedly placed over 100 bets and wagered close to $900, according to the Des Moines Register.
