Alpha Chi Omega will host a fundraiser for ACCESS (Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support), a local shelter for women and children that have experienced domestic violence, on Wednesday. All proceeds will be donated directly to them.
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is a global men’s march where men and boys wear high heels in order to bring awareness to domestic and sexual violence. The event will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday on Central Campus.
Abbey Quaid, a junior studying journalism, serves as vice president of philanthropy for Alpha Chi Omega. She saw the event on TikTok and put her own spin on it, making it into a relay race in high heels. Those involved in the event will sign up in teams of six, where each person is at a different checkpoint around campus.
“My overall goal with the event is to just promote domestic violence awareness and really educate the community about ACCESS, a local non-profit organization here in Ames,” Quaid said. “They have so many amazing resources for survivors of domestic violence.”
The tickets to participate are $5 and include food and a drink with purchase. It can be paid online before the event or at the event itself. They are accepting donations as well. To purchase tickets or donate, click here.
“It is for such a good cause and just having that support there and being able to learn about things is so important,” Quaid said.
