The Senate confirmed three new senators to various committees at Wednesday’s meeting.
The Senate moved to confirm two new senators to the rules committee. Senator Anna Hackbarth, a senior in electrical engineering, and Vice Speaker Brandon Kamstra, a senior in kinesiology and health, interviewed Senator Sydney Jones, a junior in cyber security engineering, and Senator Hunter Schneider, a freshman in political science, before being confirmed.
“I was interested in […] making sure that we’re following the rules and regulations that we need to follow and making sure that our bylaws and rules are in the correct format,” Jones said.
The Senate bylaws set a limit of five members to the rules committee, however that bylaw was waived to include Jones and Schneider. They were both confirmed by unanimous vote.
The rules committee wasn’t the only one with vacancies filled, as the public relations committee also saw a senator seated.
Senator Kieran Trotter, a freshman in history, was confirmed to the committee by the Senate.
“My project for the foreseeable future is getting a weekly radio show and broadcast to answer what your government’s doing, why we’re doing it, what it means,” Trotter said.
The Senate tabled a bill that would add three new at-large members to the public relations committee, as none of the at-large members or their interviewers were present.
