Showcasing 27 participating vendors, the fall Housing Fair will provide an opportunity for students to learn about and compare living options for next year.
The Housing Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
“Whether you’re seeking apartment options on campus, looking to make the move off campus, or simply find a better rental option, this event is for you,” Megan Moore, an Iowa State marketing specialist, stated in an email response to the Daily. “This Housing Fair gives our students the ability to connect with property managers, rental properties and other amenities around Ames to help make their next move a great success.”
New to this fall’s Housing Fair is the Office of Student Financial Aid. This organization will help share resources with students on the cost of renting an apartment and living off campus.
“They are amazing at assisting students in all of those skills that can help with financial success and making sure students keep in mind hidden fees and invest in low-cost opportunities like renters insurance,” Moore stated. “They can also assist students who are interested in living on campus and what that might look like when comparing cost of attendance per semester.”
For students looking for short-term housing options, the Department of Residence can assist with finding affordable housing for those who do not want to be tied down to a year-long lease. These short-term options can be helpful to those looking to study abroad or spend a semester away at an internship.
Student Legal Services (SLS) will also be in attendance to answer any questions students might have about a contract or lease. SLS is a legal aid office that provides free and confidential legal services for members of the Iowa State community. The organization informs students about their rights as tenants and how to be informed renters.
“We want to add that Ames community members are also invited to participate in the Housing Fair,” Moore stated. “We know they can benefit just as much as students who are looking to explore their options, and many of our vendors have properties or amenities that serve the entire city of Ames, not just campus town areas.”
Students are encouraged to bring their student ID to swipe into the event. A full list of the 27 vendors in attendance can be found on the Student Engagement website.
“Bring your future roomies and get excited about what the Ames community has to offer you,” Moore stated.
