Dear Daily readers,
Last week, I published three articles detailing my thoughts on the current war between Israel and Hamas. While I am not going to write any more articles (for the time being) on the morality of the war, I intend to write more on the events and happenings as they occur. It is simply too important of a topic to ignore.
However, I realize that we are a local paper and oftentimes people in a community wish to see content that pertains to the place in which they live.
Given this, I am calling for those in the Ames community affected by the war in Israel to either submit their opinions on the issue or to discuss their stories with me.
I have contacted local mosques and synagogues, however, if you are a member of the Arab or Jewish community (or any other community for that matter) please contact me directly if you are interested in having your views and experiences published.
Above all, I aim to have face-to-face dialogues about this world catastrophe as it is ongoing. I have met students whose families in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza strip are in grave danger of political onslaught from all sides.
If we wish to see conditions improve, local convergence is imperative, especially when we confront the fact that our nation is, in large part, funding this war.
I look forward to our future discussions and correspondence.
Sincerely,
Caleb Weingarten
Note: I do not want to insinuate that I support individuals speaking on the behalf of a whole community. It is self-evident that although a culture and tradition may be homologous, people within these cultures and traditions uphold varying positions on a wide array of issues. My attempt is to amplify different perspectives that the Ames community can begin to understand and grapple with.
