Day one of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up as both Wesley Kiptoo and the Iowa State Distance Medley Relay team competed. Kiptoo defended his national championship in the 5,000 meter run today as the DMR team put together a strong performance at the event.

Kiptoo kicked off the evening for the Cyclones as he ran a great time against some of the nations top athletes. Kiptoo ended the day finishing in 12th place out of 16 with his time of 13:41.71 which is not his best time but still an impressive performance.

Despite not cracking a top 10 finish in the men’s 5,000 meter run, the Cyclones DMR team put together a great display which saw them place sixth. The DMR team of Frank Hayes, Alex Lomong, Jason Gomez and Nehemia Too completed the event with a time of 9:28.62 which was just shy of a top five finish.

The Cyclones put together great displays during day one of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and will be back in action on day two. Kiptoo will be running in the men’s 3,000 meter run representing the Cyclones at 5 p.m on Saturday.
