The Iowa Board of Regents made a statement of support for the people and state of Israel in a post Wednesday evening, via the Iowa Board of Regents X, formerly known as Twitter, account.
Statement from Iowa Board of Regents President Mike Richards: The Board of Regents fully supports the people and State of Israel, and are steadfast in our solidarity with them. We condemn all acts of terrorism.

The statement, attributed to Board of Regents President Michael Richards, came eight days after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution supporting Israel and on the same day newly-elected Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, said he plans to hold a vote on an Israel aid bill.
The bill introduced by House Republicans would provide $14.3 billion in aid to the country, which experienced attacks by Hamas, a Palestinian militant group.
Several U.S. higher education institutions have reported on-campus incidents where Jewish students were targeted, including a Jewish fraternity at Georgia Tech that was reportedly sprayed on its outside walls with the words “free Palestine” in shaving cream.
The U.S. Department of Education began an antisemitism awareness campaign in May, an effort the department said would “bring the full resources of the Department to bear to ensure all students – including Jewish students – are able to attend schools free from discrimination, including harassment.”
A bill titled “Stop Anti-Semitism on College Campuses Act” was introduced on Oct. 18 and is cosponsored by eight Republican Senators, including Joni Ernst of Iowa. The bill would rescind federal education funding for institutions that “peddle antisemitism or authorize, fund or facilitate events that promote violent antisemitism,” according to the bill’s author, Sen. Tim Scott’s office.
The Board of Regents’ next meeting will take place at the University of Northern Iowa Nov. 15 and 16.
