Former Iowa State linebacker Aidan Ralph was sentenced to 10 years Monday, after being found guilty Nov. 2 of third degree sexual abuse (a class C felony) and a first offense of domestic abuse assault with injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor.
Ralph was suspended from the football team following his arrest in May, after allegedly shoving his girlfriend of three years down a set of stairs, refusing to call for emergency services and raping her. He pleaded not guilty before his trial in October.
Ralph was also issued a special sentence by the court upon completion of the 10 years, effectively placing Ralph under supervision for life.
Prior to his trial, Ralph was held on an $11,000 bond and was sentenced Monday to $1,800 in fines. A five-year no-contact order was issued between Ralph and the victim.
