Iowa State University has announced a partial closure for Tuesday as a wind chill warning for temperatures near 30 below zero will begin Saturday and will last through noon Tuesday.
The statement said all academic buildings will be locked but residence halls and dining centers will remain open. Thielen Student Health Center will be open for urgent care and Student Counseling Services will be available for support.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines, Iowa, is not forecasting the temperature in Ames to be above zero degrees from Saturday afternoon until Wednesday.
Students returning to campus to caucus can still plan to do so despite being forecasted to be the coldest Iowa Caucus night in history. Iowa Republican Party Chair Jeff Kaufmann said the caucuses are like “a football game that’s going to go on no matter what.”
